b. Upload using Cute FTP

1. Start the Ws_FTP program by pressing Start>Programs>WS_FTP>WS_FTP95 LE. When you start the program you will be prompted with a window called Session Properties.


2. You can leave the Profile Name box at it's default, or put your email address in if you plan to share the computer among multiple accounts.
On the Host Name/Address box, enter in the address of the Cheaps.net user directory server, ftp.cheaps.net.

3. Leave Host Type at Automatic detect.

4. On the line that ask for your User ID, enter your username.

5. On the Password line, enter your email password. You can choose to save it in the program if you like.

6. Leave the account line blank.

7. Enter in any comments you may wish to make, or leave the Comment line blank.
After you have entered all of your information, click the Ok button, and you will connect to Cheaps.Net server. You will need to have a basic understanding of a computers directory structure to point your WS_FTP software to the location on your machine with all the files that are needed for your web page, and to your user directory.

8. The first thing you will need to do is access your remote user directory on the right half of the WS_FTP screen by clicking on ChgDir.



9. After clicking on ChgDir, you will be prompted with a window to enter in your user directory. Your directory will be "/username/public_html/".

                                  

10. If done correctly, you will now have access to your user directory on the right half of the window. The next step will be to point the left half of the window to the location on your hard where you stored your web page. You will now need to click on the ChgDir on the Local system half of the window.



11. You will be prompted with a window like the one before, only now it will be asking for the location on YOUR hard drive.

                                   

12. After entering in the path to your directory, you will now see a listing of all the files in your web pages directory, and on the right half of the screen, the names of any files you may have in your user directory. Select all the files that will be necessary to post your page, and then click on the arrow that points to your user directory.

13. The WS_FTP program will then upload your files to your remote user directory. When complete, a siren will sound and you will see your files on the remote system.



14. Your files are now uploaded. Your main page must be named default.htm or index.htm in order for your page to automatically show up when someone browses to your user directory. Congratulations you now have your own web page. Fire up your web at http://member.cheaps.net/~yourusername.
